One of the preeminent tribes in central France, the Aedui occupied the area around Autun.As their homeland was proximate to the Rhone trade route, the Aedui adopted elements of classical culture. Eventually, due to intertribal fighting, their position of supremacy declined, and the Aedui eventually bolstered by aligning themselves with Rome.
